Today we are featuring an artist that is made up of pure talent and ambition, and widely considered one of Canada’s best contemporary singer/songwriters, Leeroy Stagger.
Growing up on Vancouver Island, Leeroy was introduced to the music scene from a young age. He decided that he wanted to become a musician after attending a Rolling Stones Concert, and then learned how to play guitar, drums and bass. In the early 2000’s, after playing in several local bands, Leeroy made his mark in the Canadian Independent Music Scene when he reinvented himself as a solo artist. His sound is often tagged as Americana, but in reality is much broader. Over the last few years, he has learned to ignore the urge to try and fit into any specific genre, and when he released his last album, Love Versus, it was clear that he succeeded.
After 2 decades of making music and 12 studio albums, Leeroy has created a worldwide fan-base that continues to grow as he releases more music. He has toured the world on his own, and with the likes of Steve Earle, PIXIES, Modest Mouse and Evan Dando. Among his achievements are winning the 102.7 THE PEAK's highly competitive Performance Project in 2015, working with legendary U.S. industry mogul Danny Goldberg and having his songs appear in such television shows as Grey's Anatomy and Sons of Anarchy.
Described by Cashbox Magazine as “A little Steve Earle, a little John Prine, a little Bruce Springsteen, and a whole lot of his own heart and soul”, Leeroy is an insightful songwriter with a gift or distilling complex images, commentary and concepts into brilliant succinct lyrical one liners. It’s no doubt that he will continue to portray his raw and incomparable talent in the future.
